Fundraising: Special Efforts

Over the past 13+ years, we have been consistently overwhelmed by the way God supplies for our needs through the generosity of Christians. In that time we’ve found that people especially appreciate the opportunity to contribute to specific needs, and we in turn seek to help our partners “put a face” on what they are supporting.

With these needs and preferences in mind, and due to our current $815/mo commitment-to-budget shortfall for 2018, we are initiating a special fundraising campaign to help meet the following ministry efforts:

LaetHaos: Men's Camp (March 2018)

In conjunction with our newly inaugurated LaetHaos Ministry, we hosted our first ever Men’s Camp last year with great success. 22 men from nine congregations came together for a week of fellowship and study. Last year’s theme was “Daily Christian Living” wherein we focused on keywords such as cruciform, Christian, selfless and servant. We rounded out each day’s events with discussion groups, games, exercise, food and visiting. We witnessed relationships form between these brothers who had not previously had the chance to meet. We have since learned of countless interactions between new friends … connections that were made as a result of the week together.

We are hoping to increase to as many as 30 men in March of this year, and we will be spending time together talking about what it means to be a "Disciple of Jesus". Our budget for the camp is $1500. The men are responsible for funding their transportation to camp (oftentimes with their local church helping offset some of that cost), and we are raising funds to provide for camp-related expenses as well as paying their return trip back home. That equals out to $50 per camper if you’d like to contribute an amount with that in mind.

Funds for this effort may be contributed easily and securely via PayPal at our sponsoring congregation's Missions Webpage (note: you DO NOT need a paypal account, just a credit or debit card). Simply go to perkinschurch.org/missions and click the "Donate" button. Add an electronic note stating "Vanuatu Men's Camp" to enure proper accounting.

Alternatively, checks (earmarked "Vanuatu Men's Camp") may be mailed to the church PO Box.

Discipleship Training Session One (May 2018)

We see God opening a door to disciple young Christian men. We’ve put together a list of approximately ten 20-to-30 year old, unmarried Christian men on 5 different islands. Our vision is to invite a group of four guys to participate in a three-week session at our LaetHaos facility to focus on becoming more like Jesus through the study of Scripture, worship, and service. After three weeks of discipleship training, we envision sending these four participants back to their homes better equipped and excited to serve as Jesus’ hands and feet within their families, churches, and communities.

In order to make this vision a reality, we are seeking to raise $1300 which will be used to make two sets of timber bunk beds (500 each), pay travel and meal expenses (250), and provide session materials (50).

Youth Camp (May 2018)

We initiated our youth program here in Vanuatu back in 2014, and we’ve conducted three youth camps to date, with attendance increasing from 12 to 24 to 65 at last year’s camp. Youth camp is always a highlight of our year, and we anticipate welcoming as many as 80 campers this year, with camp scheduled to begin Apr 30. During our time together, we emphasize that youth have reached a critical point in life, as they are beginning to make choices that will affect the rest of their lives. We encourage them to make those decisions based on a commitment to Jesus and the wisdom found in Scripture. Our primary focus last year dealt with choosing a marriage partner, and this year we will look at specific issues youth face in Vanuatu, discussing the best ways to deal with them. We were also excited to witness five campers make a confession to be Christ followers as they were baptized on our shoreline during last year’s camp.

We anticipate needing $3000 to fund this year’s camp, which includes food and other camp expenses, t-shirts, and return-trip transportation (local churches and families pay for the youth to travel to camp).
